Before The Eyewall is a highly atmospheric and crushingly heavy instrumental trio hailing from Columbus, Ohio. The band released their debut full-length earlier this year and it's quite an extraordinary psychedelic experience in trembling doom metal.
It took me a while to figure this record out. Not that I did not like it, it was more about what is going on. The cover in hind sight is very appropriate. It beacons the motive of this bands different approach. But at first I was distracted by its almost elite, though retro like design. The movie Metropolis has similar aspects to it. And I got the feeling this could be the design of an army of metropolis like robots. You know, what if there was a follow up to that movie with everything on a much grander more epic scale.
Manthra Dei is an Italian psych/ prog/ space four-piece that brings us some serious intergalactic soul-soothing jams.
The band's self-titled debut starts with a warm, laid-back opening track that swirls from groove to groove. Heavy psychedelic thrills combined with hot desert grooves and lots of spacyness. This sets the tone for the rest of the album that follows the same celestial course.
"Saturnalia Temple is a Draconian Magical prophecy that speaks through music. From strings, battery and chants echoes nothing but dedication and timeless traditions."
Bringing a mind-shattering blend of occult doom and heavy psychedelica, Saturnalia Temple is an often overlooked gem in the genre. Their hallucinating riffs could be placed somewhere between Ramesses and Electric Wizard, but that's just stating the obvious. Stockholm's Saturnalia Temple is a ritualistic experience that should be played LOUD and without distraction. A band that will captivate you with it's highly immersive and hypnotizing sound.
