Top 15 Albums Of 2012
Submitted by Robin on 12/28/2012 - 19:40.
Another year, another list. For Stonerobixxx, 2012 was a year of change and progress. January 2013 marks our 5th birthday and we're already nearing 4 months of music blogging through stonerobixxx.net!
This place still has a long way to go but I can proudly say it runs 100% INDEPENDENT. Something I sorely missed back in the blogspot days... New concepts and ideas are in the making as we speak! On to 2012's favorites;
15. Bell Witch - Longing

Longing is simply the best slab of slow, raw 'n heavy DOOM I've heard all year. A cultish grimdark masterpiece in the genre.
14. OM - Advaitic Songs

OM's latest is yet another mystical journey into hypnotic stoner-psychedelica like you've never quite heard it before.
13. Conan - Monnos

Heaviest sludge-induced piece of barbaric mayhem 2012 has to offer.
12. Incantation - Vanquish In Vengeance

Lots of solid doom/ death releases this year. Incantation's Vanguish in Vengeance takes the cake, remaining one of the most extreme bands in the genre.
11. Neurosis - Honor Found In Decay

Well, you just can't go wrong with Neurosis. Honor Found in Decay grows, entangles, provokes and takes you places.
10. Orange Goblin - A Eulogy For The Damned

A big name with a big attitude, A Eulogy For The Damned is Orange Goblin like you've never heard them before. Some amazingly memorable tracks and grooves on here. Fat, dirty, riff-fueled doom rock. Lovely.
9. Radar Men From The Moon - Echo Forever

Since the release of their 2011 Demo/ EP, Radar Men From The Moon crashed the radar of any self-respecting stoner/ space addict. And rightfully so, their latest album is top-notch heavy intergalactic rock from start to finish.
8. Serpentine Path - Serpentine Path

Looking for some absolutely crushing, swampy, nihilistic ten-ton doom? That's right, Serpentine Path. With current and former members of Electric WIzard, Ramesses, & Unearthly Trance.
7. Witchsorrow - God Curse Us

Witchsorrow returns with a vengeance. God Curse Us is a highly underrated gem of dark, cathedral-esque stoner/ doom.
6. Colour Haze - She Said

With She Said, Colour Haze gave birth to one of their best albums yet. A 2-disc masterpiece of kraut, psychedelic, jam & desert rock.
5. Summoner - Phoenix

Probably my biggest surprise of the year. Phoenix is an absolute modern classic of distinct, psyched-out stoner metal filled with incredible songwriting, melodies & riffs.
4. Stubb - Stubb

A wonderfully refreshing take on heavy 60's & 70's rock, blues and psychedelica. Can't wait to see/ hear what these guys will do next...
3. Horseback - Half Blood

Combining ambient, psychedelic, progressive and black "metal" with a unique form of dusty drone. A sound that needs to be experienced. Half Blood is a more than worthy follow-up to Horseback's previous EP.
2. SardoniS - II

I have to admit, SardoniS makes me proud to be Belgian. These guys blew my mind in 2010 with their debut album and they just did it again. II is a non-stop barrage of earth shattering riffage and thrashy stoner/ doom grooves. Back to basics, no bullshit, this is the main reason why I love this type of music.
1. Ufomammut - ORO

My number 1 favorite of 2012. Not one, but two albums that go together as a conceptual whole. Ufomammut's ORO 2-piece is stellar from beginning to end, it combines evertything this band has ever done and turns it into one big slab of cosmic doom. I adore this Italian three-piece and everything that goes with it. Can't tell you how much I enjoyed Opus Primum & Alter throughout the year. Amazing!
Honorable Mentions
1. High On Fire - De Vermis Mysteriis
2. Snailking - Samsara
3. Saint Vitus - Lillie: F-65
4. My Sleeping Karma - Soma
5. Dragged Into Sunlight - Widowmaker
6. The Company Band - Pros & Cons (EP)
This concludes the list. Read, share, agree and disagree. Keep in mind that I probably haven't heard EVERYTHING 2012 had to offer within our beloved genres, fill me in!
